Can people from the USA travel to Cuba legally?
President Obama has greatly expanded legal Cuba travel for Americans. You can go to Cuba legally without a license or paperwork as long as your purpose of travel fits into one of these US government approved categories. We will be traveling to Cuba on the Any type of support for the Cuban people (people to people). Purely touristic travel such as relaxation stays at all-inclusive beach resorts is prohibited. What documents do I need to travel?
You must have a Cuban Tourist Visa; sometimes referred to as a Cuban Visitor card to enter Cuba, together with a current passport (valid for one month following your departure date). These two documents are all you need to go to Cuba legally. The Cuban tourist visa is valid for 30 days and can be renewed in Cuba for another 30 days. The cost of a Cuban Visa is usually included in the price of your round trip airline ticket. We will facilitate you getting one if it is not. Can I purchase alcohol and cigars in Cuba to bring back home?
Yes you can! The Obama administration eliminated the $100 limit on the value of Cuban rum and cigars that American travelers can bring back from the island. Cuban rum and cigars will now be subject to the same duties as alcohol and tobacco from other countries, meaning most people will be able to bring back as many as 100 cigars and several bottles of rum. High-end Cuban cigars can sell for more than $100 apiece outside Cuba, meaning every U.S. traveler can now legally bring back many thousands of dollars in Cuban products. The previous limit restricted travelers to a combined value of $100 in rum and cigars. (CNBC 10/14/16 ) But play it safe and double check with the US Government rules for legal Cuba travel. Although the power supply in Cuba is mainly 110 volts, most of the modern hotels have dual voltage with all the sockets in the room being 220 volts. Usually in the bathroom there is an 110 volt socket suitable for shavers and charging batteries. A 4 gang 13 amp extension lead could well prove very useful.
